Pune, October 26, 2026: Pune Rural Police raided the Amrai Resort lodge in Velu village of Bhor taluka and rescued 13 women. According to police, an alleged prostitution racket was being run there.
The action was taken by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Pune Rural Police. The unit had received information that women were being lured with money and forced into prostitution.
According to police, Sneha Giri, the AHTU's nodal officer and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, had learnt that Raghu Shetty allegedly lured women with money and made them agree to prostitution at the lodge.
Police then planned a decoy operation. A man was sent to the lodge as a customer, given two Rs 500 notes and accompanied by two panch witnesses, so that the information could be verified. He was told to alert police with a missed call once a woman was presented to him.
On receiving the signal, a police team reached the spot with two independent witnesses and searched the entire premises. The alleged prostitution racket came to light there. Thirteen women were rescued in the operation.
Police have taken action against Vaibhav Balaji Ingle, who was sitting at the lodge's counter. A case has been registered at Rajgad police station against both the lodge operator Raghu Shetty and Ingle.
The action has also raised questions about alleged illegal activities in resorts in the Khed-Shivapur and Velu areas of Bhor taluka. The AHTU has acted against such alleged activities in a large resort in the area, but the question has also been raised whether the local Rajgad police were unaware of them or ignored them.
Local residents have demanded strict action to stop such activities. Rajgad police are conducting further investigation into the case.
