Rajgad police raided a resort at Velu in Bhor taluka of Pune district and busted a prostitution racket operating there. Police said their investigation found that women were being forced into prostitution for just Rs 1,000.
Police rescued 13 young women from different states of the country in the action.
According to official information given by the police, the action took place at around 6.30 pm on October 22. Rajgad police raided 'Amrai Resort' in the Velu area of Bhor taluka.
Police had received reliable, confidential information that for the past two months the accused, Raghu Shetty, had been luring women from different states with money and forcing them into prostitution at the resort. Acting on this, Rajgad police planned the operation and sent a dummy customer into the resort.
Once they were sure that illegal activity was going on there, police surrounded the entire resort at once and raided it.
During the raid, it emerged that the immoral trade was being run at the resort for just Rs 1,000. Police searched the whole resort in the manner of a combing operation and rescued the 13 victims found there. The women are from Mumbai and Thane, as well as Delhi, West Bengal and Karnataka.
There is strong talk in Bhor and Pune talukas that the resort where this was going on belongs to an office-bearer of a major political party. Preliminary information is that the office-bearer had rented out the resort to another man to run it.
Rajgad police are investigating in depth who the real owners of the resort are and how far the racket's network extends.
