Pune Rural Police have booked four people for allegedly operating an illegal dance bar in Sate village of Maval taluka, disguised as a live orchestra programme. The case rests on CCTV footage that police say shows women dancing obscenely while customers threw money at them.
The accused are the bar owner, an orchestra manager and two waiters. No arrest has been reported so far.
The action began on Friday night, when Police Inspector Shankar Patil of Vadgaon Maval police station received a tip-off. He was told that around eight women were performing obscene dances on a stage at the venue and that customers were showering cash on them. A police team was rushed to the spot.
By the time the policemen got there, however, the women had already left, and the customers had started to leave as well, a police officer said.
The investigators then asked the bar owner to hand over the CCTV recordings of October 22 and 23. According to the officer, the footage allegedly shows the women dancing in an obscene manner. In one clip, a customer is seen placing money in a waiter's hand, and the waiter then throws the same notes at the dancing women.
On the strength of these recordings, police registered a case against all four in connection with the alleged illegal activity. Police say the CCTV footage is the main basis of their action in the matter, which concerns the Maval area of Pune district, where a dance bar is alleged to have been run under the pretext of an orchestra.
