Baramati industrialist Rana Suryavanshi's attack was staged by him to get VVIP security, police say

A shocking turn has emerged in the case of the murderous attack on industrialist Rana Suryavanshi in Baramati. It has been found that he himself had arranged the attack so that he could get police security of the kind given to VVIPs.

Pune Rural Police have arrested Parth Awthade and Swapnil Kamble in the case. A minor boy has also been detained. All three are being questioned. The complaint was filed at Baramati police station by Laxmikant Mahadev Suryavanshi, 42, a resident of Sansar in Indapur taluka.

Rana Suryavanshi is an industrialist, and Laxmikant Suryavanshi worked for him as a driver. On the evening of Sunday, the 18th, Rana had come to the Gojubavi area of Baramati taluka on some private work. Unknown persons who arrived on a scooter then struck him on the right hand with a weapon. He was seriously injured in the attack. It caused alarm across the district, and various guesses were made about the attack.

Later, in his complaint, Rana's driver expressed suspicion that the people running the organisation where Rana earlier worked could be behind it. But police caught two of the attackers, one of them a minor. The case came under suspicion during the initial investigation itself. It later emerged that a third person was directing the two.

On Friday, police arrested the third accused as well. An officer then said the attack had been planned in advance and that Rana himself had got it carried out.

The question then was why Rana needed to do this. According to information available, Rana Suryavanshi is a well-known industrialist and already has paid police security, for which he has to pay. But he strongly wished to have security with a convoy or escort, like a minister or a VVIP.

Such security is given to highly vulnerable people and ministers, and there are set rules for it. It can be obtained by submitting details of a person who fears a life-threatening attack or has already been attacked. This is why the claim that the attack was got carried out has come up.
