Pune, October 26, 2026: Pune Police have asked Google and Apple to remove Rapido from their app stores. The police allege that the company is running bike taxis in the city without permission. Action in the case has been tightened, yet the service continues across the city.
Police said messages have been sent to both companies. Last week, Jitendra Dudi, Pune Collector and chairperson of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), had written a letter seeking action against the service. The latest step follows that letter.
The move comes as an FIR was registered against Rapido only last week. According to an RTO official, the company's application for permission to run bike taxis is still pending with the transport department.
The official said, "Rapido has been warned of legal action for not following the rules. If the company meets all the conditions of the bike taxi policy, its application can be considered. But operating without permission could create difficulties in the approval process."
Despite this action, the bike taxi option is still visible on the Rapido app and rides are running across Pune.
Daily commuters have also questioned the proposed crackdown. They say the administration should focus on bringing the service under regulation rather than shutting it down. They argue that public transport in the city has gaps, and that there have also been complaints of some autorickshaw and cab drivers overcharging and behaving rudely.
