Pune, October 25, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has deployed 17 officers in its ward offices to control mosquitoes. The aim is to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and malaria.
The corporation's health and vector-borne disease control department has asked people to report any place where mosquitoes are breeding to their respective ward offices. Residents have also been asked to take precautions themselves to clear stagnant water around homes and housing societies.
The officers will work together with the ward offices concerned. They will act on complaints about mosquito breeding and have insecticide sprayed wherever needed. Anyone who spots mosquito larvae or a breeding site in stagnant water should inform the PMC ward office in their area.
The corporation has also issued some guidelines to stop mosquitoes from breeding around homes. People have been asked to keep water tanks, drums, barrels and other water storage containers covered and to clean them regularly.
Citizens have also been asked not to let water collect in old tyres, plastic containers, flowerpot saucers and other discarded items. Water that collects in fridges, air coolers and flower vases should also be emptied from time to time.
The PMC has also advised people to keep the surroundings of their homes clean, check possible breeding spots repeatedly, and wear full-sleeved clothes to reduce the risk of mosquito bites.
According to the health department, people with symptoms such as fever, body ache or headache should get themselves tested at a corporation hospital. Those showing symptoms of dengue, malaria or any other mosquito-borne disease have been told not to delay seeing a doctor.
The 17 officers appointed to coordinate mosquito control work in the ward offices are Murli Tate, Vishwanath Borate, Swapnil Karanjkar, Govind Satpute, Girish Kalkas, Amol Havaldar, Vishal Padwal, Anand Chabukswar, Fakir Shaikh, Vishal Rupnar, Nilambar Kharat, Rajendra Dhayarkar, Ganpat Shinde, Raju Ukarde, Yuvraj Hole, Prakash More and Rohan Chavan.
Finally, the PMC has appealed to people to cooperate with the administration by not letting water collect, keeping surroundings clean and reporting mosquito breeding sites to the ward office concerned as quickly as possible.
