Several rules and deadlines affecting household finances change from November 1, 2026, from pensioners' life certificates to LPG cylinder rates.

A new month brings changes in several rules tied to daily life and money matters. From November 1, 2026, some major changes come into effect in the country and will directly affect people's pockets. They matter to everyone, from pensioners to customers who use domestic and commercial gas. Those who want to finish their tasks on time and avoid losses should know about them in advance.

First, pensioners. November is an important month for elderly people who receive government pensions. Every year pensioners must submit a life certificate. This confirms that the person drawing the pension is alive and that the pension continues without interruption.

For people aged 80 or above, the process began on October 1. For all other pensioners, submission of the life certificate starts on November 1. The last date for submitting it has been fixed as November 30, 2026. Pensioners can submit the certificate easily by visiting their bank or digitally, using Aadhaar. Failure to submit the certificate within the stipulated time may cause difficulty in receiving the pension.

Next, the income tax return (ITR). There is a relief date this November for taxpayers. For financial year 2025-26, the last date for filing ITR has been extended from October 31 to November 21, 2026 for taxpayers who are required by the rules to get their accounts audited for tax purposes. However, the extended deadline does not apply to ordinary taxpayers. Traders and businessmen should therefore check the last date applicable to their category.

LPG cylinder prices will also be in focus on this date. The country's oil and gas companies review LPG cylinder prices on the first of every month and issue new rates. Accordingly, the prices of both domestic and commercial gas cylinders are likely to change on November 1.

Whether gas prices will rise or fall will be clear only after the companies' official announcement. A change in the price of domestic cylinders can upset household budgets, while the rate of commercial cylinders can affect hotels, restaurants and other businesses. Customers should therefore check the latest rate in their city before booking a cylinder.

Finally, banking and fixed deposits (FDs). Before investing in a fixed deposit, bank customers should check their bank's interest rate, tenure and the conditions for pre-mature withdrawal, that is, taking out money before the term ends. There is no clear information that any universal rule on interest on ordinary FDs is changing from November 1. Even so, it is always useful to read the bank's official notices from time to time for any new change.
