The party's core committee will meet at 9 am, hours after a four-hour meeting of NCP MLAs at the Devgiri bungalow in Mumbai on Tuesday night.
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is in the middle of a series of meetings. A group of the party's senior leaders went to Delhi and met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Political activity in Maharashtra has appeared to pick up since.
For several months, political circles have talked of Sunetra Pawar and Parth Pawar being on one side and senior leaders of the Ajitdada camp on the other. The senior leaders' Delhi trip has fuelled this talk further.
The NCP core committee has been called to meet again at 9 am on Wednesday. The party's senior leaders had met Shah in Delhi on Sunday night, and the core committee met the next day. Wednesday's meeting is the second core committee meeting since that visit. According to sources, the senior leaders met Shah bypassing Sunetra Pawar and Parth Pawar. Against the backdrop of the growing friction between the senior leaders and MP Parth Pawar, the meeting has gained in importance. Everyone is eager to know what will happen at today's meeting.
Earlier, on Tuesday night, a meeting of NCP MLAs was held at the Devgiri bungalow in Mumbai. It lasted about four hours and ended late on Tuesday night. A few hours later, on Wednesday morning, the core committee leaders are to gather again.
At the meeting, the MLAs complained that although their party is in power, work is not getting done. Some MLAs said work was not being done from Eknath Shinde's side. The MLAs also said they get no word at the lower levels about the disputes among the senior leaders. They also expressed the feeling that the party is being weakened as accounts of the senior leaders' rift keep coming out.
After the Devgiri meeting, Sunil Tatkare spoke to the media. He denied reports of an internal dispute in the party. Tatkare said all MLAs had been given clear instructions at the meeting to visit farmers' fields, learn about their problems and try to resolve as many issues as possible.
