According to information from Swargate on November 3, 2026, the family alleges that her in-laws physically and mentally harassed her over demands for dowry and gold.

A case has been registered at Swargate police station against Payal's husband Akshay Jhambare, her mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law. Police have arrested the husband. He was produced in court on Tuesday, which sent him to police custody until November 7.

On Tuesday, Payal's family and relatives went to Swargate police station and met senior police officers. They demanded that the remaining accused be arrested immediately. The family alleges that about 45 hours have passed since the incident, yet the mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law are absconding.

The family also questioned the police investigation. They allege that Payal's father-in-law came to the police station, but a policeman took him outside instead of detaining him. The family also says CCTV footage from the society where the incident took place has still not been seized.

The relatives said clearly that if the remaining accused are not arrested by Wednesday morning, villagers will block the National Highway.

DCP (Zone 2) Milind Mohite said Payal's relatives had met senior police officers and their concerns were discussed. He said he understood the family's anger and that police had assured them the investigation is under way.

On the remaining accused, Mohite said Payal's father-in-law is admitted to hospital after his health worsened, and will be arrested as soon as his condition improves. He also confirmed that Payal's husband is in police custody until November 7.

According to the DCP, police are also examining a WhatsApp message that Payal allegedly wrote before her death. It is said that in the message she held her in-laws responsible for her condition. Police are investigating both the allegations of dowry harassment and the circumstances of Payal's death.
