Four suburban local trains on the Pune-Lonavala route will be cancelled on Sunday, October 25, because of the construction of a pedestrian subway between Dehu Road and Begdewadi stations by the Pune division of Central Railway.

The subway will be built using reinforced cement concrete (RCC) segmental box RH girders. To carry out the work, the railway administration will take a four-hour block on both the up and down lines, from 11.40 am to 3.40 pm.

The proposed subway is meant to let pedestrians move more safely between the two stations. However, the work will also affect suburban trains and long-distance trains passing through the route. Passengers travelling from Pune, Lonavala and the stations in between have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

The locals cancelled on Sunday are: train no. 99814 Pune-Lonavala local, train no. 99818 Pune-Lonavala local, train no. 99813 Lonavala-Pune local and train no. 99817 Lonavala-Shivajinagar local.

Two express trains will also be hit by the block. Train no. 12164 MGR Chennai Central-Mumbai LTT Express, which began its journey on October 24, will be held up for three hours 30 minutes en route in the Solapur/Pune division.

Train no. 11029 CSMT Mumbai-Kolhapur Express of October 25 will leave late. It will depart from CSMT Mumbai at 12.10 pm instead of the scheduled 8.40 am, which means it will leave three hours 30 minutes late.

The railway administration has asked passengers to check the latest status and revised timings of trains before starting their journey. The information is available on the Indian Railways enquiry portal and on the mobile app of the National Train Enquiry System (NTES).

Central Railway has said the work is necessary to improve operational safety in the Pune division and to make pedestrian movement safer. The administration has expressed regret for the inconvenience to passengers.
