Pune, October 24, 2026: The Maharashtra government has approved a payment of Rs 47.65 crore, including GST, for Pune's CCTV surveillance project. An amount of Rs 50.31 lakh has been withheld for 104 buffer poles that have not been installed so far.

The approval was given through a Government Resolution (GR) issued on October 22. The money will be paid to the agency executing the work, which covers installing cameras as well as the video footage infrastructure at the data centre and the disaster recovery centre.

The project initially provided for a total of 1,443 poles. Of these, 1,238 designated poles were to be installed at 1,007 locations, and 205 poles were kept as buffer. All the designated poles have been installed, but only 101 of the buffer poles have been put up. In all, 1,339 poles have been installed so far.

Senior Home Department officials said that after deducting the amount withheld for the remaining work, the approved payment comes to Rs 40.38 crore excluding GST.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Manisha Mhaiskar said on Friday that the expansion was carried out at the request of the Pune Police. It is expected that the additional cameras will improve surveillance of public places, help prevent crime and allow quicker action on any incident.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said he had raised the issue of releasing the funds early at a meeting held earlier this month.

Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole said the approval would help complete the remaining work and further strengthen the city's surveillance network.

The CCTV project, which covers Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, was conceived after the serial bomb blasts in Pune on August 1, 2012.
