Eight months after taking power in Pimpri Chinchwad, the BJP has set up a city-level panel with powers to act against office-bearers, elected members and workers who breach party discipline.
Pune, October 29, 2026: Eight months have passed since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and internal differences within the party have come out in the open during this period. In meetings of the general body and the standing committee, some corporators of the ruling party were seen objecting to their own colleagues. Against this backdrop, the BJP has set up a city-level disciplinary committee to curb factionalism and ensure organisational discipline.
Elected representatives have returned to the corporation after a gap of four years. Since then, corporators have been raising issues related to civic administration. However, some BJP members have been taking positions like those of the Opposition and questioning decisions taken by the ruling side. This has set off talk of an internal split in the party. At one point, the corporation's general body meeting had to be adjourned.
The BJP's state leadership and the city president had earlier warned party office-bearers against such conduct. Even so, the differences between corporators and office-bearers continued. The situation did not change despite the warning, and the question of organisational discipline has now come to the fore.
The newly formed Pimpri Chinchwad city district disciplinary committee includes Legislative Council member Uma Khapre, former Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority chairman Sadashiv Khade and ruling party leader Prashant Shitole. Party general secretaries Adv. Moreshwar Shedge and Vikas Dolas, as well as Adv. Gorakhnath Zol, are also members of the committee.
The committee has been given the power to take action against office-bearers, elected representatives and workers who violate party discipline, try to tarnish the party's image or go against the party's stand. In other words, the committee can act against anyone who breaks discipline, whether an office-bearer, an elected representative or a worker.
BJP Pimpri Chinchwad city president Shatrughan Kate said, "The disciplinary committee has been formed so that the functioning of the organisation runs smoothly, it expands, and discipline is maintained among office-bearers and workers. Its aim is to take action against those who damage the party's image or take anti-party positions."
Party leaders expect that the committee will help resolve internal differences, improve coordination among corporators and keep the party's civic work focused on development.
