Two drones went out of control during a drone show at Wankhede Stadium and fell on Platform 3 of Churchgate station, injuring a 37-year-old man; a case has been registered.
A commuter was injured at Western Railway's Churchgate station on Wednesday night after two drones from a show at the nearby Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai went out of control and fell on the station. A telecom company's event was under way at the stadium, and it included a drone show. The incident caused panic at the station.
At first, nobody at the station understood what had happened. A drone fell suddenly from the air on a commuter's head, and the other passengers were alarmed to see blood flowing from it. The full picture emerged only after the railway police reached the spot some time later.
According to preliminary information, the drone show was under way at around 8.10 pm when two of its drones went out of control. They fell on Churchgate station nearby, both landing on Platform 3.
Hemant Mahotsavkar, 37, was standing on Platform 3 towards the Virar end. One of the two drones, coming down from the air, hit him directly on the head. The impact caused blood to flow from his head.
Railway security personnel helped him immediately and gave him first aid. He was then taken by ambulance to GT Hospital.
After he was taken to hospital, the Government Railway Police (GRP) took both drones into their custody. A case has been registered against unknown persons. The investigation into how the drones went out of control and fell on the railway station is continuing.
