A young woman died by suicide by hanging in the Ganeshnagar area of Jogeshwari in Gangapur taluka of Sambhajinagar district. The incident took place on May 14, between 8 am and 6 pm. A case has been registered at the MIDC Waluj police station against an accused named Ganesh Shankar Shendge.
According to the complaint given to the police by the young woman's father, Hanvanta Sheshrao Sirame, he and his wife returned home from work on May 14, 2026, and found the door latched from outside. When they opened it and went in, they saw their daughter hanging from a ceiling fan with a dupatta. She was brought down at once and taken to the Ghati hospital for treatment, but doctors declared her dead after examining her.
In his complaint, the father has made a serious allegation that his daughter took the step because she was fed up with the accused's constant harassment and threats. It is alleged that the accused lured the young woman into a relationship and gifted her an iPhone, after which he began harassing her mentally. According to the allegation, he had threatened her: "Marry me, or I will defame you, and I will not let you marry anywhere."
The police investigation has also found that the deceased woman's iPhone has been recovered, and that the accused, Ganesh Shankar Shendge, was the one who had given it to her. According to the police, the investigation revealed that he kept causing her mental distress and repeatedly blackmailed her by pressuring her to marry.
On the father's complaint, a case has been registered at the MIDC Waluj police station under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) and Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Police sub-inspector Suresh Sangale is conducting further investigation into the case.
