Although it is October, the heat of the sun and the humidity appear to be rising in parts of Maharashtra. According to the weather department's forecast, hot and humid weather is likely at some places in the districts of Konkan and Goa. People living near the coast in particular are facing oppressive humidity. In view of this, the administration and the weather department have issued a warning asking for special caution in some districts.
Considering the severity of the heat and humidity, the administration has issued a "yellow alert" for five major districts: Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri. Because of the high moisture in the air in these coastal areas, people may be drenched in sweat and feel discomfort from the heat.
In Mumbai, which was at the centre of the yellow alert, the weather on October 12 is very likely to be mostly clear, but the heat and humidity will be intense. The sun will be strong across the city and suburbs. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 37 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 26 degrees Celsius. Mumbaikars will have to face harsh sunshine and sultry heat during the day.
Over the past 24 hours, temperatures in different parts of the state showed a wide variation. Malegaon in North Maharashtra recorded the state's highest maximum temperature, at 38.4 degrees Celsius. At the other end, Jalgaon recorded the lowest minimum temperature, at 18.2 degrees Celsius, which offered some relief.
According to the weather department's forecast, the maximum temperature in Maharashtra may fall gradually by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next three to four days. After that, no major change in temperature is expected. In Gujarat too, the maximum temperature will not change much over the next four to five days. As for minimum temperatures, they are expected to remain steady in Maharashtra over the next four to five days.
Going by the region-wise forecast, dry weather is likely on October 12 in all four regions: Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Dry weather is forecast for the same four regions on October 13 as well.
