The last stretch of September has begun, yet Maharashtra's rain situation has still not improved. The retreating monsoon has set in, but many parts of the state continue to face a large rain deficit. Some districts are getting light to moderate showers, but heavy rain does not appear likely everywhere. This has raised concern among farmers and the general public.

In the Konkan, a yellow alert for rain has been issued for Raigad and Ratnagiri districts on September 29. Strong winds with lightning and light to moderate rain are possible at isolated places, and heavy showers are forecast in a few spots. However, heavy rain is not expected across the Konkan, so rainfall will vary from area to area.

In North Maharashtra, light showers are possible at a few places in Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts. Wind speed in the Nashik ghat area is expected to be 30 to 40 km per hour. Light to moderate rain with thunder is possible at isolated places, and heavy rain in some spots. But the rain will not fall everywhere.

Parts of Western Maharashtra may get relief. Light to moderate rain and thunder are likely in Ahilyanagar. Showers are also forecast at some places in Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Solapur districts. Strong winds with lightning and light to moderate rain are possible, and heavy showers may fall at isolated places.

In Marathwada, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Beed may see rain with thunder. Light showers are possible at some places in Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv. The weather is expected to stay dry in most areas. Farmers' difficulties continue because of the large rain deficit.

No major alert has been issued for Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia and Nagpur districts in Vidarbha. The weather is likely to be dry, humid and hot in most parts. Indications are that the dry spell of the past few days will continue.

Overall, rain is likely in parts of the state on September 29, but not across Maharashtra. Some parts of the Konkan, Western Maharashtra and the ghat areas may get slight relief from the rain. Dry weather is likely in many parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha. Farmers and the public are now watching how much of the state's rain deficit the retreating monsoon can make up in the coming days.
