West Indies won the first Test by eight wickets, lifting India from fifth to fourth in the 2025-27 World Test Championship points table.

There has been a big reshuffle in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table. West Indies beat Bangladesh in Dhaka, and India benefited directly. India have moved up one place from fifth to fourth.

Bangladesh are playing a two-Test series at home against West Indies. The first match was played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The series is part of WTC 2025-27. West Indies played superbly in the match and beat the hosts by eight wickets.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first. They made 272 in the first innings. In reply, West Indies could manage only 245, giving Bangladesh a lead of 27 runs. But Bangladesh's batting faltered in the second innings and the whole side was bowled out for just 142.

West Indies were then set a target of 170 in the fourth innings. The Caribbean side reached it losing only two wickets. Brandon King's 81 and John Campbell's 49 were key to the win.

On the points table, Bangladesh were fourth with 55.56 per cent of points before this match. After the defeat their points percentage fell to 47.62 and they slipped to fifth. India benefited. Earlier fifth, they are now fourth with 51.52 per cent of points.

West Indies remain eighth with 26.92 per cent of points, although the win has improved their points percentage.

Even though India have moved to fourth, the road to the final is not yet easy. The coming two-Test series against New Zealand will therefore be decisive for the team. India will play the series at home from November 19. To stay in the race for the final, the Indian team will have to perform well in it.
