South Africa and Australia are playing a three-match Test series. Australia won the first Test, but South Africa came back in the second and beat them by an innings and 31 runs. The win has levelled the series at 1-1. It has had a direct effect on the World Test Championship points table, where there has been a major shake-up.
Despite the heavy defeat, Australia remain at the top of the points table, in first place. However, their points percentage (PCT) has fallen sharply, to 75%.
South Africa's win has made the race to reach the WTC final more interesting. The coming matches will be very important for every team. Australia had secured their position by winning the first match, but South Africa's win in the second has slightly changed the equation.
The third and final match of the series is now crucial. If South Africa manage to win this last match, they will not only win the series but could also pull Australia down from the number one spot. The Kangaroos will therefore have to work hard in the next match to retain their dominance. With South Africa's win, the third match is set to be a closely fought contest, and everyone is watching to see who wins the series.
The Indian team is currently struggling in fifth place on the table. Even so, its hopes of reaching the WTC final remain alive. To secure a place in the final, India will have to win as many matches as possible in the coming series.
The top six teams in the WTC points table are: 1. Australia, 2. New Zealand, 3. South Africa, 4. Bangladesh, 5. India, 6. England.
