After ODI series win, India and West Indies turn to five-match T20I series starting in Lucknow on October 6
India won the three-match ODI series 2-1 and now host West Indies in five T20s, with India leading the head-to-head record 20-10.
India and West Indies played a three-match ODI series. Team India won the first two matches, while West Indies took the third. India won the series 2-1. Batters hit plenty of fours and sixes through the series, but India's bowling was disappointing.
Now the T20 action is about to begin. The two teams will play five T20 matches. The first match will be held in Lucknow on October 6. Ahead of the series, here is how the two sides stand in T20 head-to-head record.
India have performed well against West Indies in T20s. Recently, under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy, the team won the gold medal at the Asian Games. Before that, it had beaten Afghanistan 3-0. Beating India at home will be very hard, and West Indies will have to work considerably harder.
The first T20 between the two teams was played in 2009. India and West Indies have so far played 31 T20 internationals. India have won 20 of them and West Indies 10. One match ended without a result. These numbers make India look the stronger side. The last match between the two was at the 2026 T20 World Cup, in which India beat West Indies by five wickets.
In the T20 format, the West Indies squad has aggressive players such as Romario Shepherd, Rovman Powell, Shimron Hetmyer and Akeal Hosein. Because of their experience of playing in Indian conditions, they are in great demand in the Indian Premier League. Under Shai Hope's captaincy, West Indies are a strong side. Their batting will rest largely on Hope, Hetmyer, Powell and Sherfane Rutherford. The all-rounders are Roston Chase, Keemo Paul, Powell and Shepherd.
West Indies' bowling will be led by left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein and fast bowler Shamar Joseph. Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie and Chase's off-spin will also help the team.
India's openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are in superb form. Abhishek recently hit a explosive half-century against Pakistan. Both bat aggressively for the team. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma are also in good rhythm.
It will be important to see whom India pick in the bowling department, as Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav are in the squad along with Arshdeep Singh. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will handle the spin duties. If the batting needs strengthening, Naman Dhir could be given a chance in place of Prince or Mayank.
