Water supply under the regional scheme serving 14 villages in Wardha district, including Pipri-Meghe, will remain shut for five consecutive days from October 21. The scheme belongs to the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, which needs the shutdown for essential technical work. The authority has appealed to residents of the villages to store enough water for drinking and daily use.

The work will be carried out in the Yelakeli area near Interchange No. 4 on the Samruddhi Mahamarg. A 700 mm diameter ductile iron (DI) pipeline will be taken across and connected to the existing main raw water pumping pipeline. The work is complex, and it was stated that the main water supply through the pipeline must be stopped temporarily to complete it safely.

The shutdown will hit Pipri (Meghe), Karla, Satoda, Alodi, Nalwadi, Mhasala, Warud, Sindi Meghe, Umri Meghe, Sawangi Meghe, Borgaon-Meghe, Waigaon (Nipani) and Selu (Kate). The authority said supply in all these villages will be affected. It has therefore asked residents to store drinking and daily-use water sufficient for the next four to five days before October 21.

Once the crossing and connection work is complete, the necessary technical checks will be carried out. Supply will then be restored in phases, so regular supply may take longer to resume in some areas. Sub-divisional engineer Deepak Dhote of the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran has appealed to citizens to cooperate for this essential work.

Meanwhile, the Dham reservoir, which supplies the 14 villages including Pipri, currently holds only 70 per cent of its capacity. A water shortage is therefore feared in the coming period. The administration is taking measures to plan the available water properly. As a result, it is learnt that a decision may be taken at the end of October to supply water to these 14 villages, including Pipri, only once a week.
