Large crowds are expected in Nagpur for the immersion of Durga idols during Navratri, and the city's traffic arrangements have been changed accordingly. According to a notification issued by Aditya Mirkhelkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), traffic restrictions will remain in force on the immersion routes as required till Tuesday, October 20.

Crowding and traffic jams are feared on the roads leading to Futala lake, Police lake, Gorewada artificial lake and Koradi lake, and restrictions have been imposed there for that reason. The restrictions will not apply to government vehicles engaged in essential services. Alternative routes have also been fixed for other vehicles, including heavy vehicles coming from Wardha.

For immersion of Durga idols coming from the city and rural areas at Koradi lake, designated routes will be used, including Mankapur, Koradi T-point, Mahadula T-point and Bharat Mata Chowk. Vehicles coming from rural areas will be able to reach Koradi lake via the Nanda Phata route.

For idol immersion at Police lake, the routes via Liberty Chowk, Cantonment bypass, Durga Mandir Cantonment and Juna Katol Naka have been fixed. Vehicles going to Gorewada artificial lake will have to use designated routes including Liberty Chowk, Cantonment bypass, Juna Katol Naka, Gittikhadan and Borgaon Chowk. Vehicles heading from Mankapur Chowk towards Gorewada Chowk will be diverted onto the Naveen Katol Naka road as needed.

For Futala lake, immersion vehicles coming from the Mankapur area will reach it via Manish Nagar and designated nearby roads. For vehicles coming from the Sahakar Nagar area, a route via Khamla Chowk, Savarkar Nagar Chowk, Aath Rasta Chowk, Shankar Nagar Chowk and Ravi Nagar Chowk has been fixed. Vehicles coming from Telangkhedi T-point and Bharat Nagar T-point will have to be parked at designated parking sites. After immersion, empty vehicles will return via Vayusena Nagar, TBI Tower Chowk and Balodyan road.

Arrangements have also been made for heavy vehicles. Heavy vehicles coming to Nagpur from Wardha will not be allowed to enter the city. For heavy vehicles heading towards Chhindwara and Amravati, routes via the Saoner outer ring road and the Jamtha bypass towards the Bhandara national highway have been fixed. Heavy vehicles travelling to and from Kamptee and Chhindwara will also have to use the designated alternative routes.

Traffic police have appealed to people to use only the designated routes and avoid taking vehicles on the restricted roads.
