21 injured as pickup and truck collide on Samruddhi Mahamarg near Dhamangaon Railway
A Bolero pickup carrying devotees from Shegaon collided with a truck near Dhamangaon Railway late at night; the injured were taken to hospital.
A Bolero pickup tempo and a truck collided head-on late at night on the Samruddhi Mahamarg in the Dhamangaon Railway area, leaving 21 people injured. Two of the injured are said to be in a critical condition.
According to the available information, some devotees from Wardha district had gone to Shegaon to seek the blessings of Shri Durgadevi. After the darshan, they were returning towards Wardha in the pickup tempo with an idol of the goddess when the vehicle collided with the truck near Channel 97 on the expressway in the Dhamangaon Railway area.
The impact was so severe that both vehicles were badly damaged. A large crowd gathered at the spot after the accident, and local residents and police rushed there on getting the news.
Of the 21 injured, 2 are in a very serious condition, 10 have serious injuries and 6 have minor injuries. Preliminary information has spoken of 5 people dying on the spot. Official information is awaited on whether the number of dead and injured could rise. Police are also investigating what caused the accident.
Dhamangaon Railway police, local residents and journalists reached the spot and began rescue work immediately. They pulled the injured out of the wrecked vehicles. All of the injured were then admitted to the Dhamangaon rural hospital for treatment.
Considering their condition, the seriously injured have been sent to the medical college in Wardha for further treatment. The injured are being treated at the hospital, and a medical team is monitoring their condition.
Special Inspector General of Police Mahesh Patil, Amravati district Superintendent of Police Niketan Kadam and Dhamangaon mayor Archana Rothe visited the accident site and the hospital. They took stock of the accident and reviewed the rescue operation and the treatment of the injured.
Several serious accidents have occurred on the Samruddhi Mahamarg before. The incident has once again raised questions about the safety of the expressway. Police are investigating the circumstances in which the Bolero pickup and the truck collided near Dhamangaon Railway.
