The Ravan Dahan will be held at Kasturchand Park in Nagpur on Tuesday, 20 October. In view of the event, the Nagpur city traffic police have issued a traffic diversion notification. From 3 pm to 10 pm, vehicles will not be allowed to enter several roads leading to Samvidhan Chowk. Motorists have been asked to take other routes.
The Ravan Dahan is being organised under the aegis of the Sanatan Dharma Sabha, Kadvi Chowk. A large number of people from across the city are expected to attend, so the traffic police have made special arrangements for the surrounding roads.
According to the notification, vehicular movement will be completely barred on some routes from 3 pm to 10 pm on Tuesday. The ban will apply to all types of vehicles, including bicycles and cycle rickshaws. The roads on which it will apply are:
LIC Chowk to Samvidhan Chowk, Kannamwar Putla Chowk to Samvidhan Chowk, Forest Office Chowk to Samvidhan Chowk, and Shri Mohini Complex to Samvidhan Chowk.
People who use these roads every day have been advised to decide on an alternative route before setting out.
The traffic police have also announced alternative routes. Vehicles going from LIC Chowk towards Samvidhan Chowk will be sent via Liberty Chowk or Jaystambh Chowk. For those going from Kannamwar Putla Chowk to Samvidhan Chowk, the option is the road past Meetha Neem Dargah or Bishop Cotton School.
Traffic going from Shri Mohini Complex to Samvidhan Chowk will be diverted towards LIC Chowk. Vehicles coming from Ramjhula towards Samvidhan Chowk will also have to take the LIC Chowk route.
Police officers on duty have been given the authority to close or open roads depending on need and conditions on the spot. They will also be able to divert traffic to other roads.
Crowd and traffic pressure are likely to increase during the Ravan Dahan. Motorists have therefore been urged to stay away from the closed roads, follow the instructions of the traffic police and use alternative routes when necessary.
