Three cousins were killed in a collision between a car and a container on the Bambhori flyover, on the edge of Jalgaon city, on Sunday night. The impact was so strong that the car was completely smashed.
The dead are Pankaj Prakash Chaudhari and Ravindra Arun Chaudhari, both residents of Jhurkheda in Dharangaon taluka, and Harish Himmat Chaudhari, a resident of Chopda.
According to the information available, the three were returning from Jalgaon to their village, Jhurkheda in Dharangaon taluka. At that moment, a container coming from the opposite direction hit their car head-on on the Bambhori flyover. The impact was so severe that the car spun around and was badly damaged. All three died in the accident.
On Sunday, the dashakriya ritual for Pankaj's uncle was held. A cousin, the son of a paternal aunt, had come from Jalgaon for it and was to go to a goddess yatra at Vanvali near Bhusawal. The three had driven him to Vanvali. They were returning to Jhurkheda after dropping him off when the accident happened on the Bambhori bridge.
Harish worked in the solar sector. He was married and has two younger brothers. His father works as a cook at a school for the disabled in Sanpule. On hearing of the accident, relatives reached the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jalgaon. A crowd of grieving relatives gathered at the hospital premises.
After the collision, the container was left stuck dangerously on the flyover railing. As there was a risk of it falling, traffic was stopped as a precaution. This led to long queues of vehicles on the highway and a jam stretching towards the city as far as Khotenagar.
With the Paldhi-Tarsod bypass closed, the number of vehicles passing through the city has increased. It has been stated that 12 people have died in separate accidents over the past two and a half months. After the Bambhori flyover accident, the issue of traffic arrangements on the highway and of opening the bypass has come up for discussion again.
