Everyone wishes for peace and happiness at home, money that lasts and no quarrels. Some people follow the rules of Vastu Shastra for this. Vastu Shastra is not only about which direction a house should face. It also says which things should be taken from whom, and which should not be taken.
It is said that if certain things are taken free from someone else, the negative energy of that person's home enters one's own home and difficulties increase. There are three such things: a handkerchief, salt and iron. According to the belief in Vastu Shastra, none of these three should be taken or given free. One should avoid taking someone else's used handkerchief or gifting one's own handkerchief to another person. Salt should not be taken or given free. Instead of taking iron items free, one should pay for them. Here is a look at the three, one by one.
First, the handkerchief. Never take anyone's used handkerchief. Chanakya says that both giving and taking a handkerchief is wrong. People wipe sweat and tears with a handkerchief. It is therefore believed that the person's sorrow and negative thoughts remain in it. If a friend's handkerchief is taken free, his problems can come to you. And if you gift someone a handkerchief, a distance comes into the friendship. So a handkerchief should always be bought by oneself.
The second item is salt. Salt is needed in every home, but in Vastu, salt is linked to the planet Shani. Shani is regarded as the planet that dispenses justice. So salt should not be taken free from anyone, nor given free to anyone. Doing so is said to bring money trouble, growing debt and constant disputes at home. Sometimes one has to ask a neighbour for salt. At such times, do not take it empty-handed. Give a little money or some item in return.
The third item is iron. Iron is also the metal of Lord Shani. Taking an iron item without paying is considered inauspicious. So iron should always be bought from a shop with payment. Even if someone offers it free, take the item only after giving him Rs 10-20.
Besides these, a broom, oil, a pen and a clock are also said not to be taken free. However, the handkerchief, salt and iron are considered the most important. Follow these rules if you agree with them, and it does not matter if you do not. But following these small things, it is said, keeps good energy at home.
