Vasai-Virar Mayor Marathon on December 13; online registration opens October 15

The date has been fixed for the 13th national-level Vasai-Virar Mayor Marathon, jointly organised by the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation and the Vasai Taluka Kala Krida Vikas Mandal. The event will be held on December 13, 2026.

Online registration for the event will begin on October 15. Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation Mayor Ajiv Patil made the announcement.

The Mayor said runners taking part would be provided good facilities. Lodging and food will also be arranged for runners coming from outside the city.

The 42-km full marathon will be the main race. There will also be a 21-km half marathon and 10-km and 5-km races. A 3-km "Dhamal Daud" will be held for the general public.

Prizes worth Rs 58 lakh have been set aside for the marathon. It is counted among the marathons with the highest prize money in the country. The prizes will be open only to Indian athletes. Both professional and amateur runners can take part, and the country's leading long-distance runners also compete in it.

The registration fee has been kept lower than in many other marathons. Runners coming from outside the city will get lodging and food free of charge. Along with local runners, a large number of runners from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Maharashtra and other states take part. Runners from the Army, the Railways and the NIA also run in it.

The Vasai-Virar Mayor Marathon is recognised as a national-level event by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). The race route has also been measured and certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

The marathon will have separate races for schoolchildren aged 10 to 18, and schoolchildren will get free entry. Special events will also be held for senior citizens and athletes with disabilities. The entry form will be available at www.vvmm.in.
