The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has detained two men at Goa International Airport on suspicion of using modern devices to cheat in a competitive examination. Preliminary investigation suggests the two were involved in malpractice in the recruitment exam for the post of administrative assistant in the non-academic staff at IIT Goa.
Both men are residents of Jind district in Haryana. They have been identified as Rakesh Daholiya (29) and Ankit Singh (23). It has emerged that one of them had taken the exam in place of another candidate.
According to the information available, at around 2.25 pm a passenger booked on an Air India Express flight from Goa to Delhi placed his bag for X-ray screening at the security checkpoint. A CISF jawan noticed some suspicious electronic items in the bag, after which it was searched thoroughly.
The search turned up three sophisticated electronic devices used for cheating in exams, two SIM cards and three Bluetooth earpieces. An admit card for the IIT Goa recruitment exam was also recovered from the bag.
During questioning, the passenger admitted that the devices had been used to cheat in the exam. He also told the CISF that the other man travelling with him had already boarded the aircraft. With the help of airline staff, the second passenger was identified and taken off the plane. Similar devices and SIM cards were found in his bag as well.
Both have been handed over to Goa Police for further investigation, and a case has been registered against them.
One of the accused has claimed that he took the exam in place of another candidate. He had thrown away identity cards belonging to some other people in the waiting area of the security check, and these have also been seized. Both men have also claimed that they are employees of a defence establishment, which is being verified.
