Tata Punch is India's top-selling SUV in first half of FY27, ahead of Nexon and Fronx

Tata Punch has once again shown its strength in India's SUV market. In the first half of financial year 2027 (H1 FY27), the Punch was the country's best-selling SUV, with 1,23,287 units sold in the six months.

The Tata Nexon was second with 1,11,919 units, and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx third with 1,10,135 units. Together, these three SUVs sold 3,45,341 units.

Total sales of the top 10 SUV models reached 8,74,516 units, against 6,44,081 units in the same period of the previous financial year. That is an increase of 2,30,435 units, a year-on-year rise of 35.78%. The figures show that Indian customers' preference for SUVs is growing.

Punch sales rose 67.84% over last year, from 73,455 units in H1 FY26 to 1,23,287 units now. The Tata Nexon grew 24.97%, while sales of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx rose 43.40% to 1,10,135 units.

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris recorded the steepest percentage rise in the period. Its sales jumped from 4,282 units to 72,012 units, an increase of 1,581.74%. However, the model was launched late last year, so its sales in the earlier period were low. The Kia Seltos sold 67,667 units, up 99.28%, and sales of the Hyundai Venue rose 37.73% to 68,836 units.

The Mahindra Scorpio and Scorpio N together sold 93,488 units and took fourth place. Sales of the Hyundai Creta fell 9.68% to 89,727 units, and those of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza declined 5.17% to 80,516 units. The Kia Sonet was tenth in the top 10 with 56,929 units.

Overall, seven SUV models recorded double-digit annual growth, making competition in the SUV market even more interesting.
