Tata Motors had a strong September 2026 in the Indian car market. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles sold a total of 68,810 cars during the month, against 59,667 in September last year, a rise of about 15.3% year on year. The performance made Tata Motors the country's second-largest carmaker. Although the Nexon retained the top spot, the Punch gave it a strong challenge.

The Nexon led the company's models. The Nexon and Nexon EV together sold 20,456 units in September 2026, but this is lower than the 22,573 units sold in the same month last year.

The Punch and Punch EV together sold 20,333 units. Compared with 15,891 units last year, Punch sales rose 28%. The gap between the Nexon and the Punch has narrowed to just 123 units. It will be important to watch whether the Punch overtakes the Nexon in the coming months.

The Sierra recorded sales of 7,205 units in September. The Tiago and Tiago EV together sold 7,043 units, and Tiago sales fell 15% year on year. The Harrier and Harrier EV sold 3,082 units, and Harrier sales were down 26% from 4,181 units last year. Altroz sales also fell 29% to 2,944 units.

The growth in sales of the Curvv and Curvv EV was the most notable. The models sold 2,610 units in September, 67% more than last year. In September 2025 the figure was 1,566 units.

The Tata Aries was launched on September 25, and 2,406 units were recorded as sold in just six days. Safari sales reached 2,045 units, a rise of 2%. The Tigor sold 686 units, but its sales fell 29%.

Overall, although Tata Motors' sales rose, the performance of each model was not the same. The Nexon's lead remains, the Punch is moving up fast and the Curvv has also recorded growth. The auto market will now watch which Tata car draws the most customers in the coming festival season.
