Those planning to buy a new car on an auspicious Diwali day need no longer pick the costliest variant to get an attractive feature such as a panoramic sunroof. In the Indian market, six cars priced between Rs 9.72 lakh and Rs 13 lakh ex-showroom offer a large glass sunroof in select variants. They are the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Syros, MG Astor, Tata Curvv and Hyundai Creta. However, choosing a car on the sunroof alone would not be right, as each car differs in engine, gearbox, airbags and safety features.

The cheapest option is the Tata Nexon Pure Plus PS, a step above the base Pure Plus model. Its starting ex-showroom price is Rs 9.72 lakh, for the turbo-petrol manual variant. A 6-speed AMT gearbox is also available. The same variant can be had with a diesel engine, with both manual and AMT options. A CNG option is also available for buyers looking at another fuel.

In second place is the newly launched REVX Edge (O) variant of the Mahindra XUV 3XO, with a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 9.89 lakh. Notably, this price is under Rs 10 lakh. It comes with petrol and diesel engines, each available with a manual or automatic gearbox. An infotainment system and some other features are provided for everyday use. Buyers should check the safety equipment and features of this variant before deciding.

In the Kia Syros, the panoramic sunroof starts from the HTK Plus variant, with a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 10.76 lakh. The variant includes several features related to comfort, everyday convenience and safety. Another notable point is that all powertrain options of the model are available in the HTK Plus, so buyers can choose an engine to suit their driving needs.

The MG Astor Shine is a step above the base variant. It has a panoramic sunroof and a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 11.34 lakh. But buyers must keep in mind a major shortcoming of this car: the Astor Shine gets only 2 airbags. It is offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a manual gearbox. The MG Astor has also not received a major update for a long time. Instead of choosing it for the sunroof, buyers should look at its safety features and compare it with other options.

In the Tata Curvv, Tata Motors has changed the variant structure, and the panoramic sunroof now starts from the Creative X variant. Its starting ex-showroom price is Rs 12.91 lakh. The variant has a good package of technology and safety features, but does not offer the more powerful Hyperion turbo-petrol engine. Instead, it gets the regular turbo-petrol and diesel engines. It is therefore advisable to choose a variant by weighing engine performance, fuel type and features together.

The list also includes the Hyundai Creta EX(O), another popular SUV variant. Panoramic sunroof and LED reading lamps were added to this variant in the 2025 update. Its starting ex-showroom price is Rs 12.97 lakh, going up to Rs 15.96 lakh depending on the engine option. Those who want the cheapest automatic with a sunroof can look at the petrol EX(O) CVT variant, priced at Rs 14.37 lakh ex-showroom. Buyers choosing between manual and automatic must also keep the budget in mind.

All prices quoted for these six cars are starting ex-showroom prices. The actual on-road price will be higher once registration charges, insurance and other applicable charges are added. Before buying, buyers should confirm the final price and the features of the variant with the dealer.

Given India's heat and dust, the real benefit of a panoramic sunroof will not be the same for every customer. Buyers should therefore first give priority to the number of airbags, engine, gearbox and safety equipment, and only then consider budget, comfort features and the sunroof. A large sunroof may be an attractive feature, but choosing a car that suits safety and everyday needs matters more.
