Tata Motors has launched a new compact sedan, the Tata Aeris, in the Indian market. The car is an updated version of the Tata Tigor, presented by the company under a new name. The Aeris has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 5.30 lakh, while the top-spec Accomplished iCNG AMT variant is priced up to Rs 9.75 lakh. The car is available in five variants: Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished.

In terms of design, the Tata Aeris is built on the X-ALFA platform. It features sharp LED headlamps and DRLs at the front, along with new 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and connected LED taillamps. A wide lower grille, C-shaped housing, wheel-arch cladding and a dual-tone black roof give the car a more striking look. Customers will get a choice of six exterior colours.

The cabin also gets plenty of technology. The car includes a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. iRA connectivity enables more than 35 connected car functions. It also offers wireless charging, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and 65W Type-C charging.

On the engine front, the Tata Aeris gets a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine producing 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. The CNG version produces 75.5 PS of power and 96.5 Nm of torque. Both engine options come with a choice of 5-speed manual and AMT gearboxes. The CNG AMT option could be more convenient for daily use.

On the safety front, the Tata Aeris comes with strong standard features including 6 airbags, ESP, ABS, EBD, hill-hold control, ISOFIX and iTPMS. It also offers a 360-degree HD camera, Blind View Monitor, HD reversing camera and DashCam Recorder. The CNG model gets gas leak detection and thermal incident protection as safety features. With these features and its pricing, the Tata Aeris will directly compete with popular sedans such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
