Central Railway's local train services in Mumbai have been disrupted by a technical fault in the signalling system. Trains are running very slowly. The signal system is said to have suddenly failed at Kanjurmarg, Bhandup and between Mulund and Thane. Commuters have vented their anger on the m-Indicator app.

The faults occurred at different places, and the problem at each is different. A signal fault occurred at Kanjurmarg, where a fire in the relay room has also been mentioned. Between Vikhroli and Bhandup and between Mulund and Thane, the fault was caused by an outside wire falling on the overhead wire. Three locations are thus mentioned: Kanjurmarg, Vikhroli to Bhandup, and Mulund to Thane.

Local services on both the up and down lines have been affected. Trains on these routes are running 15 to 52 minutes late. With trains moving slowly, the local timetable has been thrown off and passengers are suffering.

Services collapsed and trains were held up during peak hours. Passengers travelling to and from work, as well as those returning home, have been hit. As the trains are crawling, they have had to wait at stations. Passengers have crowded the stations because of the stalled trains.

Meanwhile, passengers have expressed sharp anger on the m-Indicator app and on social media. Commuters have voiced displeasure over the delays to the locals and the disrupted service.

Official information is needed on what exactly caused the signal fault and how long it will take for rail traffic to return to normal. Until then, trains have continued to run slowly and passengers appear to be inconvenienced.
