Counterfeit notes were being printed inside a house in Nagpur, and the discovery has caused a stir in the city. Notably, it was the owner of the house who informed the police.
The landlord had seen paper used for printing notes in the house. He then contacted the police and gave them all the details. Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil called a press conference today and briefed reporters on the case.
Asked a question at the press conference, Nangre Patil said in a veiled remark that the police take "correct action" only when the accused come into the "tappa", or range. The remark is now widely discussed.
The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is acting in the counterfeit notes case. Nangre Patil said the accused brought a printer into the house and printed the notes. However, the notes they had were of poor quality. He said the accused had suffered a very heavy loss in the share market, which is why they turned to printing fake notes.
Fake notes worth Rs 87 lakh were seized in the area under Wathoda police station. It was a joint operation by the ATS and the police, and an accused was arrested.
Vishal alias Falli Gupta, regarded as a main name in Nagpur's drug syndicate, has also finally been arrested by Nagpur Police. There are 45 cases registered against him. Police Commissioner Nangre Patil held a special press conference on this and congratulated the police officers.
In the past four weeks, Nagpur Police have invoked MCOCA against four gangs under the NDPS Act. Nangre Patil said this is a big step towards a drug-free Nagpur.
Asked about the investigation into a case in Khaparkheda in Nagpur Rural, the police commissioner gave a light-hearted reply. He said: "We are waiting for the accused to come into the right tappa, and when he comes into the correct tappa, there will be a correct programme."
Other police actions were also listed. In the theft case at Dhomne Jewellers in Nagpur, the accused was arrested from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On Dussehra, two people, including Shraddha Dubey, were arrested in the Shiva Sharma murder case in Uttar Pradesh.
The police will also pay greater attention to traffic during the festival season.
