Thane politics is currently in a state of confusion. With the murder of Thackeray Sena division chief Pradip Purnekar heating up politics across the state, another unusual political development has now surfaced.
Yunus Shaikh, father of Thane AIMIM corporator Sahar Shaikh, known for the "Mumbra hara kar denge" remark, has been appointed to a post linked to Eknath Shinde. The news has fuelled political talk in Thane.
Yunus Shaikh is said to have been given the presidency of the Kalwa-Mumbra area in a cable association linked to Eknath Shinde. This has raised the question whether he has joined the Shinde Sena. However, Yunus Shaikh has clarified that he is still in AIMIM and has not joined Shiv Sena.
According to Yunus Shaikh, the cable and internet business has been his trade for many years. He said that as AIMIM has no separate association for cable operators, he became associated with the cable operators' association.
He said that although he has been given the presidency of the Kalwa-Mumbra area in this association, it does not mean he has joined Shiv Sena. He also said that had he wanted to join the party, he would have accepted an appointment letter directly from Eknath Shinde.
Yunus Shaikh also praised Shinde. He said Eknath Shinde is everyone's boss, and ours too, and expressed the view that going with Shinde would only be beneficial. He also referred to his long-standing ties with Shinde.
According to him, his family has had ties with Eknath Shinde for about 40 years. He also said that Eknath Shinde and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi had helped during times of crisis.
He holds that receiving a Shiv Sena appointment letter or wearing a scarf bearing the party symbol does not amount to joining the party. He said he became associated with the association because of his old ties with Eknath Shinde and his cable business. He added that if Shinde gives him any further responsibility in future, he will consider it.
Meanwhile, although Yunus Shaikh's appointment has set off political discussion in Thane, he has denied the claim that he has joined Shiv Sena. Political circles are now watching what happens next regarding his role in the association and his ties with AIMIM.
