The 85-year-old NCP (SP) president was admitted on Monday after cutting short a tour of drought-hit areas; his daughter Supriya Sule says his health parameters are normal and stable.

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) president and former Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune on Monday after his health suddenly worsened. Even at 85, he had been touring drought-hit areas, and during the tour he began to complain of cough, weakness and pain in the lungs. Doctors have advised him complete rest.

Pawar had been on a continuous tour of Solapur, Dharashiv, Beed and other drought-hit areas for the past three days. On Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1, he visited Tulshi village in Madha taluka and Dudhali village in Pandharpur taluka of Solapur district. In Tulshi, he made a close assessment of the drought situation. He spoke to farmers, heard their problems and firmly assured them that he would take these to the government.

The continuous tours left him with phlegm and weakness. His next drought tour on Monday was abruptly cancelled. Because he was unwell, he abandoned the tour and returned from Solapur straight to Pune, reaching Ruby Hall Clinic.

Dr Parvez K. Grant, head of Ruby Hall Clinic, chief cardiologist, chairman and managing trustee, spoke about Pawar's health. He said, "Sharad Pawar has been admitted to hospital because of a routine health check-up and pleuritic pain in the lungs. As a precaution, he has been kept under the doctors' observation."

In medical terms, pleuritic pain is a particular kind of chest pain. It is felt more while breathing, coughing or sneezing. It is caused by inflammation of the membrane around the lungs.

According to information from Pawar's office, he will stay and rest at Ruby Hall Clinic for the next two days. After all his necessary medical tests are completed, a decision on when he will be discharged will be taken on the doctors' advice.

Meanwhile, his daughter and Baramati Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule posted an update on the social media platform X. She wrote, "Baba has a cough problem, so he has been admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune. Various health tests are being conducted there. All his health parameters are completely normal and stable. I will keep giving everyone updates on his health from time to time."
