Sharad Pawar said the Centre was expected to decide on the Chief Election Commissioner in time, and that the lack of a decision forced opposition parties to unite in protest.

Senior leader Sharad Pawar has said the Centre was expected to take a timely decision in the matter of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. According to Pawar, the government has taken no decision on it, which is why opposition parties have had to come together and launch an agitation.

Pawar was speaking at a press conference on Sunday, November 1, at his residence, Govind Baug, in Malegaon in Baramati taluka. He said Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule and other leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) would take part in the agitation in Delhi.

The agitation has been called by the INDIA bloc at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. It demands that the Chief Election Commissioner resign. Opposition parties have taken a hard line over the Chief Election Commissioner's role.

Pawar said the opposition was raising questions about the transparency of the election process and the way the Election Commission functions. Against this background, leaders of different opposition parties are coming together on one platform, he said.

Along with the Election Commission issue, Pawar also spoke about the drought in the state. According to him, drought conditions in the state are worsening. Drinking water shortages have arisen in many areas, and the question of fodder for animals has also come up.

For this reason, Pawar said, his full attention at present is on the problems of people battling the drought. He stressed that farmers and villagers hit by the drought must get relief.

While the Election Commission issue has heated up the country's political climate, the drought in Maharashtra has posed a major challenge for villages. Amid both developments, Sharad Pawar has made water, fodder and drought relief his first priority in the state.
