Panic broke out at a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Nagpur on Tuesday morning when children in a class noticed a large snake near a window. They were alarmed and immediately told their teacher.

When the teacher went to the window, a large snake was indeed there. Given the seriousness of the situation, the teacher took no risk and promptly phoned snake rescuer Akash Meshram and explained the matter. Meshram reached the school as soon as he got the call.

On arrival, he examined the snake carefully and identified it as a Russell's viper. It is considered an extremely venomous snake. The snake was very close to the classroom, which caused worry among the schoolchildren and staff.

Meshram took full precautions and caught the snake safely. It was then released in its natural habitat, away from the school premises. After the rescue, the school administration, teachers and children breathed a sigh of relief.

It is said that the situation could have turned serious had the children not noticed the snake in time. The children showed good sense in the matter. They neither went near the snake nor tried to catch it. They informed the teacher directly.

The school administration has also appealed to children that if they see a snake or any other wild animal on the premises, they should not try to catch it or drive it away themselves. They should instead inform a teacher, the school administration or the concerned expert at once.

The arrival of a venomous snake such as a Russell's viper on the school premises was a matter of concern. But the alertness of the children, the promptness of the teacher and the timely arrival of Meshram averted the potential danger. The snake was caught safely, without any harm, and released in its natural habitat.
