Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor is in the news over a statement he made. While speaking at a Dussehra event in Kolkata, he had made a slip of the tongue. A video of the remark went viral on social media, and Kapoor was trolled.
Now, at the music and audio launch of Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming film Ramayana in Chennai, Kapoor publicly apologised for the incident and clarified what he meant. "My tongue slipped while speaking," he said, and explained what the mistake had been.
At the Ramayana audio launch, Kapoor said, "I want to take this opportunity to apologise for an incident yesterday. I was at a Dussehra event and my tongue slipped while speaking. What I actually meant to say was that no matter how powerful evil is, in the end it is goodness and truth that win."
Kapoor put his point across so that what he said at the Dussehra event would not be misread. He also apologised sincerely for the error.
While apologising, Kapoor also referred to his film Rockstar, made with A. R. Rahman. He said, "This reminds me of my film Rockstar with A. R. Rahman sir. It says, doesn't it, 'My words spoil what I have to say.' So I apologise for this from the heart."
Kapoor's clarification has revived discussion of his remark. After the controversy over the words spoken at the Dussehra event, the actor came forward himself to express regret.
The Dussehra event was organised by the Salt Lake Cultural Parliament at Central Park in Salt Lake, Kolkata. Its theme was "Ram's Ayodhya". Producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari and actor Ravie Dubey were also present with Kapoor.
A video of Kapoor's remark at this event went viral on social media, after which it drew discussion and criticism. Now, at the Ramayana audio launch, Kapoor has admitted his mistake and apologised.
Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is a big-budget film to be released in two parts. Kapoor will be seen as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.
