The upcoming film Ramayanam, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rocking Star Yash, is much talked about these days. The announcement that the film will be tax free in West Bengal was reportedly made on the occasion of Dussehra.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made the announcement during the Dussehra celebrations at Central Park in Kolkata. Ranbir Kapoor and Yash were also present. Adhikari said Ramayanam would be added to the list of tax-free films.

In his remarks he also mentioned The Kerala Story, The Kashmir Files and The Bengal Files. Speaking of films based on Indian mythology, he said films could later be made on subjects such as Shri Krishna, Arjuna and the Mahabharata.

If the film gets tax-free status, audiences in the state may have to spend less on tickets. It will be important to see what effect this has on audience response and the film's earnings after release.

Advance booking for the film reportedly began on Tuesday. On the first day, 86,187 tickets were sold, and earnings of Rs 4.96 crore are being claimed. Fans are eager to see Ranbir Kapoor and Yash in one film. However, which platforms and what period these figures cover needs official confirmation.

Meanwhile, producer Namit Malhotra has floated the idea of a "Ramayana Cinematic Universe", which has added to the anticipation around the project. The plan is reportedly to bring the stories of the main characters of the Ramayana to audiences through separate films or series.

It is said that among these possible projects there could be a separate film on Sunny Deol's Lord Hanuman character. Stories of characters such as Shurpanakha, Jatayu, Indrajit and Angad are also under consideration. Official announcements and release dates for these projects are not yet clear.

In the film being directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ranbir Kapoor will appear as Lord Shri Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.

The film is planned for release in two parts. The first part, Ramayanam: Rise of a Legend, is said to reach theatres on November 5, 2026. While the tax-free announcement in Bengal is in the headlines, the advance booking figures are also drawing attention. Fans are now watching how much the film earns at the box office after release.
