A policeman on patrol around midnight in the Karodi area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar was allegedly attacked, with a young woman accused of stabbing him with a knife at Ambedkar Chowk. Policeman Fakira Nabbas Tadvi, 37, was injured in the attack. The incident has caused alarm in the city.

Daulatabad police have registered a case against eight people, including three young women. Of them, Sagar Sanjay Ingle was arrested by police at the spot. The others named are Shahrukh alias Javed, Rohini Subhash Belge, Ashwini Subhash Belge, Abhi Gaikwad and Rohit Chavan. All are said to be residents of Kamalapur, Ranjangaon. The remaining two have not been identified so far.

Tadvi is posted at Daulatabad police station. On the night of October 7, he was on patrol in a Dial 112 vehicle with policeman Gade and home guard Naeem. At about 12.30 am, they found three women and five men sitting in an open field beside the road leading to Bhangsimata Gad. Police asked why they were staying there at night, and asked them to leave, citing safety. The patrol team then moved on.

At about 1.10 am, a passer-by told the patrol team that there were thieves at Ambedkar Chowk in Karodi village. Tadvi and his colleagues went there. They found the same eight people who had been sitting in the field, making noise. Police stopped them again, asked their names and told them to leave.

It is alleged that the group began abusing the policemen and attacked them. It is said that during the assault someone was incited with the words "Don't let him live", and some of the accused held the policeman down. At that moment a young woman attacked him with a knife, it is alleged. Tadvi was injured in the attack.

Police said the people had been told to move on after loitering and creating a disturbance at night without reason, and that the attack was allegedly carried out out of anger over this. Daulatabad police have registered a case and further investigation is under way.
