Gadchiroli, October 27: Gadchiroli Police have traced weapons and explosives hidden by Maoists in a forest. Five firearms and a large quantity of explosive material were recovered in the operation. Some of the explosives were destroyed on the spot.

Maoist influence in the district is fading fast and people here have come out of fear. Even so, the Maoists had buried the material underground in the forest to harm and sabotage the security forces. Police have exposed this plot.

Police had received a tip-off that Maoists had hidden a large quantity of firearms and explosive material in the forest near Machuvancha village in the Wangeturi area under Gadchiroli police station limits. Acting on this, four teams of the Special Operations Squad and a BDDS (bomb detection and disposal squad) team were sent into the forest to search in the early hours of October 27, 2026, under the guidance of Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh.

During the search, BDDS personnel examined the area closely. The dangerous material hidden underground included 12 Claymore mines, one 12-bore rifle, three single-shot rifles, one air gun, one bottle explosive and one live Claymore explosive. Also found were one wireless microphone set, one lower handguard of a weapon, 100 sutli bombs and five sets of green cloth used for Maoist uniforms. Some other items were also recovered.

The C-60 and BDDS teams took the entire cache into their possession. Under the guidance of senior officers, various Maoist items, including two explosives, were safely destroyed at the site.

The operation, carried out on the orders and under the guidance of Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh, was closely supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Karthik Madhira, Additional Superintendent of Police Gokul Raj G., Additional Superintendent of Police, Aheri (Pranahita), Harshvardhan B. J., and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Operations) Sunil Uike. Personnel of the Special Operations Squad Gadchiroli, the Intelligence Cell and the BDDS team completed the drive successfully. Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh has specially praised all the personnel involved for their work.
