Police administrations across the country observe October 21 every year as Martyrs' Day, in memory of police personnel who gave their lives in the line of duty. On the occasion, Police Commemoration Day was observed in Gadchiroli, and a programme was held to honour the families of the slain personnel.
Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh and other senior officers also visited the homes of the slain personnel. They spoke to the families and thanked them for their sacrifice.
Police Commemoration Day was held at the Superintendent of Police's office to remember the bravery of police officers and personnel who laid down their lives on duty for the country's internal security and the protection of citizens. Under the concept of Director General of Police Sadanand Date, ceremonies to honour martyrs' families were also held at the Eklavya Hall at the headquarters and at the sub-headquarters in Pranhita.
Families of personnel killed in Maoist attacks attended the events. Senior police officers spoke to them and learnt of their feelings. The officers asked after their welfare with warmth and understood the difficulties and problems the families face. Members of all the martyrs' families were given mementos, certificates of appreciation and gifts.
Ramesh and senior officers visited the homes of all martyrs' families living within the limits of the district's police stations, sub-stations and police assistance centres, and expressed their gratitude to them.
On the occasion, Ramesh said the real message of Police Commemoration Day is to remember the martyrs, show respect to their families and keep alive in society an awareness of their sacrifice. He said the contribution of police officers and personnel who made the greatest sacrifice on duty has always been a source of inspiration.
According to him, it is because of their bravery and dedication that Gadchiroli district is free of Maoism today and is moving ahead on the path of development. He said the sacrifice of the slain personnel is a matter of pride not only for the police force but for the whole of society. The Gadchiroli police stand firmly with the martyrs' families, and sharing in their joys and sorrows and giving them the help they need is the force's responsibility.
