Fadnavis mocks Rahul Gandhi, says try comedy, has made party jobless
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said Rahul Gandhi should quit politics for stand-up comedy after making his own party jobless.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has launched one of his sharpest attacks yet on Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
Speaking at a public event and targeting Gandhi's style of working and his recent statements, Fadnavis said Gandhi should now quit politics and try a new career in stand-up comedy.
The chief minister said the kind of statements and arguments Gandhi makes before the public every day do not appear to be part of any serious political debate.
Fadnavis said, in a mocking tone, that the way Gandhi delivers speeches, the gestures he uses and the kind of light issues he raises suggest he should give up leadership of his party and take the stage as a stand-up comedian instead. He said that at least there, Gandhi would be able to entertain people well.
Fadnavis repeated the remark on his Twitter handle, writing that Rahul Gandhi should leave the party and become a stand-up comedian, since he has made his own party jobless, and as a stand-up comedian he would at least keep getting work. The post was made from Nagpur on September 20, 2026.
Continuing his attack, Fadnavis also criticised the current state of the Congress party, saying that because of Gandhi's leadership and what he called wrong policies, Congress has become completely ineffective in most states of the country today.
Fadnavis said Gandhi's irresponsible politics has not only destroyed his party's credibility across the country but has also left senior leaders and loyal workers of his own party completely jobless. He said the party that once ruled the country for a long time has today been reduced to mere statements.
Fadnavis's remarks have stirred up politics in Maharashtra and across the country. Supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party called it an accurate and fair comment on Gandhi's conduct, while there was sharp anger and opposition to the remark within the Congress camp. Congress leaders said the BJP was making such personal comments to divert attention from the real issues facing the public.
