Thackeray Sena warns KDMC of High Court move over nominated corporators
The Shiv Sena (UBT) has asked the Kalyan-Dombivli civic body to decide on nominated corporators at the next general body meeting, or it will approach the Bombay High Court.
The issue of appointing nominated corporators to the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has flared up again. The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction has warned the civic administration that it must take a decision and make an official announcement at the coming general body meeting, failing which the Bombay High Court will be approached.
The Thackeray faction alleges that about nine months have passed since the KDMC election, yet the process of appointing nominated corporators has not been completed. The party claims that, under the rules, nominated corporators should be appointed or selected within a fixed period after the election. The faction has therefore demanded that the process not be delayed further.
Umesh Borgaonkar, the Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) group leader, has submitted a written letter to KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goyal. The letter demands that the appointment of nominated corporators be taken up in the business of the coming general body meeting, that a decision be made on it, and that the decision be officially announced.
Borgaonkar has warned that if no decision is taken on the matter at the general body meeting, the Thackeray faction will seek relief from the Bombay High Court. The matter could thus take a legal turn as well as an administrative one.
Nominated corporators get a share in the working of the civic body, so their appointment carries political significance. Political parties are watching when the process will be completed.
With the Thackeray faction warning of a direct move to the High Court, political circles in Kalyan-Dombivli are now watching whether the administration will put the matter on the agenda of the coming general body meeting, and what it will decide on the appointments.
