Passenger falls onto platform from moving Mumbai local after fight over door space

Lakhs of people travel daily on Mumbai's local trains, which is why they are called the city's lifeline. But fights between passengers over crowding and petty matters show no sign of ending. The latest case took place on Friday night, when passengers came to blows in a fast local heading from Churchgate towards Virar.

According to available information, the incident took place at around 10:30 pm on Friday. As the Virar fast local that left Churchgate was between Grant Road and Mumbai Central stations, an argument began between two passengers over standing at the door. The reason was very trivial, yet the argument grew heated and soon turned into a scuffle. The two passengers began hitting each other badly.

As the fight was escalating, the local began passing along the platform at Mumbai Central station. During the scuffle, one passenger suddenly fell from the moving local straight onto the platform. Fortunately, the local was entering the station and its speed was low. The passenger therefore narrowly escaped a serious accident and major harm was averted.

Other passengers in the coach recorded the whole incident on their mobile phones. The video is now going viral on social media. The incident has once again raised serious questions about passenger safety and growing quarrels in Mumbai's local trains.

Passengers are demanding that the railway administration take strict action against such rowdy passengers and that police security be increased in local train coaches.
