Central Railway will take mega blocks on three suburban routes on Sunday for track maintenance and repair, cancelling some locals and diverting others to the fast line.

Commuters planning to travel by local train in Mumbai on Sunday would do well to check the railway timetable before leaving home. Central Railway will take a mega block on the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines as well as the Main line on that day. The block is being taken to complete maintenance and repair of the tracks, and it will affect local train traffic.

Some local services will be cancelled, while some trains will be diverted to the fast line. Passengers may face delays.

On the Main line, a block will be in force on the up and down slow lines between Matunga and Mulund from 11:05 am to 3:45 pm on Sunday. Track upkeep and necessary repairs will be carried out during this period.

Slow-line local services will be altered during the block. Some locals will run on the fast line. Passengers at the stations concerned may have to travel on a different line from their usual one.

In addition, up and down locals arriving at and departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) may run about 15 minutes late. Office-goers, shoppers and other passengers should therefore keep extra time in hand while planning their journey.

On the Harbour line, a mega block will be in force on the up and down routes between Panvel and Vashi from 11 am to 4 pm. It will affect local services for passengers travelling towards CSMT, Belapur, Panvel and Vashi.

Up Harbour locals leaving Panvel for CSMT between 10 am and 3 pm will be cancelled. Down Harbour locals leaving CSMT for Belapur and Panvel between 1 pm and 3 pm will also be cancelled. Harbour line passengers should begin their journey only after checking the alternative local services running at that time.

The Sunday block will also affect the Trans-Harbour line. Up Trans-Harbour locals leaving Panvel for Thane between 11 am and 3 pm will be cancelled. Similarly, locals leaving Thane for Panvel between 11 am and 3 pm will also be cancelled.

Those travelling between Thane, Airoli, Vashi and Panvel will need to take particular care. People heading out on the holiday for shopping, family functions or other errands should check local train timings in advance.

The timetable of locals will change on Sunday because of the mega blocks on the Main, Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines. Passengers have been asked to check the latest timetable issued by the railway administration, keep extra time for travel if possible, and avoid travelling at the times of the cancelled locals. Repair work on the Matunga-Mulund and Panvel-Vashi routes will affect Mumbai's local train service, and commuters have been urged to plan their journeys around the block timings.
