Video of man drinking liquor at local train door, throwing bottle on tracks, goes viral
A video showing a passenger drinking on a moving Virar-Churchgate local and hurling the bottle onto the railway track has drawn public anger online.
A video of a Virar-Churchgate local train is spreading rapidly on social media. It shows a passenger drinking liquor in a moving train. According to the post accompanying the video, the man was standing near the door of the coach reserved for the disabled while drinking. The post says the incident took place on a Churchgate-bound local from Platform 3 at Virar station.
The video later shows the same man throwing the liquor bottle straight onto the railway track. The whole scene was captured on camera. People are angry after the video surfaced, and a large number of furious comments are being posted on it.
Standing at the door of a local train is considered dangerous in itself. Questions are being asked about what would happen if a person lost balance or felt dizzy after drinking and fell out, and who would take responsibility for an accident. One should care for one's own life, but such behaviour can also endanger the lives of other passengers. An act done for a moment's thrill or for fame can prove fatal. Is safety, one's own and others', not more important than getting a video to go viral, the question runs.
Many are asking how anyone dares to drink in a moving train, and why nobody stopped him when he threw the bottle on the track. People are also discussing that none of the passengers in the coach objected.
Creating a ruckus in a railway coach or on railway premises while intoxicated, or behaving in a way that troubles passengers, comes under the rules. Railway law also provides for action against being drunk or disorderly on a train. Throwing garbage or anything else on railway premises is also prohibited under the rules, and the person doing so can face action.
Passengers who witness such an incident should inform the railway administration or security personnel concerned. The real question is how many people come forward to object to a wrong being committed before their eyes, or to tell the responsible agency.
The video has now gone widely viral on social media. All eyes are now on what action Western Railway and the agencies concerned take against the man after taking note of the matter.
