Youth beaten to death in Vaijapur over old dispute, three accused arrested

A young man was brutally murdered in Vaijapur taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. The deceased has been identified as Rohit Pathare. It is alleged that the accused, nursing anger over an old quarrel, took him to a square and beat him to death. There is widespread anger among people across the district after the incident.

It has not been long since the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Massajog in Beed, and the Vaijapur incident has shaken people once again.

According to the information available, the accused beat Rohit badly over the old dispute as they took him from one square to another. During the beating, Rohit, writhing in pain, asked the accused for drinking water. Rohit's family claims that instead of giving him water, one of the accused urinated on his face. This has been stated by the family.

As news spread, Sanjay Shirsat, the district's guardian minister, visited the deceased's family and consoled them. He announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the family from the state government. During the meeting the family broke down in grief and demanded the death penalty for the accused.

The family also made serious allegations against the local police. They say the police helped the accused and stalled on taking their complaint. Taking these allegations seriously, Shirsat expressed strong displeasure over the role of the police and reprimanded the personnel who were lax in the investigation. He clearly ordered that the case be handed over immediately to senior police officers for a thorough and impartial investigation.

Police have so far arrested three main accused in the murder case. Five special teams have been sent to different places to trace the remaining absconding accused. The further investigation is proceeding rapidly under the supervision of senior police officers.
