A woman caught travelling without a ticket allegedly abused and assaulted a Western Railway ticket checker at Andheri after paying her fine, and fled. Railway police have registered a case.
A woman ticket checker was allegedly attacked at Andheri railway station in Mumbai. It is alleged that a woman caught travelling without a ticket abused and assaulted the ticket checker even after paying the fine, and bit her on the hand. The incident has caused considerable stir in railway circles.
The injured ticket checker is Harpreet Kaur, who works as a Deputy Chief Ticket Inspector with Western Railway.
The incident took place on Wednesday. Kaur had boarded the women's second-class coach of a Virar local at Bandra station in the morning for a ticket check. The local reached Andheri station at about 8.30 am. Passengers travelling without tickets were made to get off on platform number six.
One of them was a woman who had no ticket. Kaur asked her to pay a fine of Rs 510. The woman first said she had no cash and asked for a QR code. The code was given, but the woman did not send the money and tried to run away.
Kaur eventually caught her and brought her to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) post on platform number 6-7. There the woman paid the fine online.
It is alleged that the woman's anger did not subside even after paying the fine. She began abusing Kaur inside the post. According to the allegation, she hit her on the shoulder, grabbed her shirt and badly scratched her hand with her nails.
Women RPF personnel tried to calm her down, but she would not listen. It is then alleged that she bit Kaur hard on the hand and fled.
Staff present immediately admitted Kaur to hospital for treatment.
Railway police have registered a case. The absconding woman is being traced through CCTV footage and online payment details. No arrest has been reported so far.
