The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has begun online registration for the NEET SS 2026 examination. Eligible doctors can apply on the official website until November 18, 2026.
The examination will be held in computer-based mode on December 11 and 12, 2026. Candidates seeking admission to super specialty courses such as DM, MCh and DrNB should note the last date for applying and the eligibility conditions.
NEET SS, or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Specialty, is a nationwide entrance examination. It is held to admit doctors who have completed postgraduate medical education to various super specialty courses. Its scores give doctors the chance of admission to DM (Doctorate of Medicine), MCh (Master of Chirurgiae) and DrNB (Doctorate of National Board) courses. The examination is important for doctors who, after an MD, MS or DNB, want to specialise in branches such as neurosurgery and cardiology.
On educational qualifications, a candidate must hold a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject from a recognised medical college or university. This includes MD (Doctor of Medicine), MS (Master of Surgery), DNB (Diplomate of National Board) and equivalent recognised postgraduate degrees. The postgraduate course must be completed on or before November 18, 2026. Permanent or temporary registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the relevant state medical council is also required.
There is no minimum or maximum age limit for the examination. There is no limit on attempts either, so eligible candidates can sit the examination again if needed.
The examination will be a computer-based test (CBT) with 150 multiple-choice questions, to be completed in 2 hours 30 minutes. The paper is divided into three sections of 50 questions each, with 50 minutes for each section. A correct answer earns 4 marks and a wrong answer carries a deduction of 1 mark. A minimum of the 50th percentile is needed to qualify.
To register, candidates should visit the official NBEMS website and select the NEET SS 2026 registration link. They should then fill in the required personal and academic details and upload the documents asked for. After checking the information on the application fee, they should complete the required process. After submitting the form, they should download a copy and keep it safe.
It has been stated that admission to more than 2,400 super specialty seats at over 156 medical colleges and institutions across the country will be based on scores in this examination. Candidates who qualify can take part in the counselling that follows. Final admission will be decided according to the merit list, vacant seats and admission rules.
Doctors who have completed an MD, MS or DNB and wish to pursue super specialty studies should therefore remember the November 18, 2026 deadline. Before applying, they should read the information bulletin on the NBEMS website to check eligibility, the examination pattern and the conditions of application.
